Today we’d like to introduce you to Dreana Johnson.

Hi Dreana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories. Music has always played a significant role in my life. I started singing as a child and eventually even rapping. My first real brush with the DJ life was in high school when I began collecting music after an uncle bought my first iPod. I collected old school, 90’s, dusties, pop, rock — everything.

The idea of how music makes people feel is what has always fueled me. When I realized I wanted to do that for a living, I dedicated myself to learning and mastering the craft. My first practice space was my cousin’s kitchen. And thankfully, at that time I had a friend whose dad was a DJ that helped and put me in front of my first crowd. Then, people started talking.

Today, as I reflect, I owe my success and my journey to being consistent and genuinely loving the craft. My audiences don’t just say I’m talented, they say I make them feel good. This is why most of my business comes from word of mouth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way? There are no smooth roads on the journey to be great. I continue to face many challenges including not letting outside and negative noises distract me from success. This year alone, I’ve faced people who have tried to take advantage of my talent and it’s been challenging to keep a good heart with so many evil spirits in the world.

In the beginning, it’s hard to see how your dreams will come to fruition — what that looks like. Keeping faith was hard for me, but I kept strong and also constantly reminded myself not to compare myself to others. I’m my own biggest critic and champion. That’s how I know that controlling your thoughts is so important. Most of all, I believe things will work out the way they’re supposed to if you’re walking in your purpose.

Despite obstacles that I know will continue to occur, I recognize that this is bigger than me. I’m grateful that I’m in the position to serve and inspire through my gift.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us? My favorite childhood memories are family get-togethers that always involved music. I recall trips to St. Louis with my grandmother during the holidays – just isolated with family, music, and a good time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on? I’m a DJ, inspirationalist, and author — anchored on the brand of inspiration. I knew my purpose was to put positive energy into the world when I discovered the power of faith, determination, and commitment of overcoming obstacles to accomplish my goals. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and thrilled to hear my name amongst some of the greatest DJs in Chicago. I’m also proud that I was able to create balance during a global pandemic and keep my peace. Going forward, I’m focused on expanding my brand in new cities and countries. I’m taking things to the next level and to audiences all over the world. I know that this is my calling, so I’m continuing to walk in my purpose.
